A schedule that starts on a Monday and ends on the Friday of the following week spans 12 calendar days. Excluding one weekend (2 days), that is 10 working days.
FAQ
How do working days differ from calendar days?
Calendar days count every date including weekends, while working days count only the weekdays after removing Saturdays and Sundays. For example, a 30-day month with 8 weekend days has 22 working days.
Are public holidays excluded?
No. This calculator excludes only Saturdays and Sundays. National and substitute holidays are not taken into account, so subtract the number of holidays in your period from the result if you need an exact business-day count.
Is it based on a five-day workweek?
Yes. The calculation assumes a Monday-to-Friday workweek. If your workplace also operates on Saturdays, add the number of Saturdays in the period to the result.
How does this relate to annual leave calculations?
Annual paid leave is usually based on attendance over scheduled working days, which typically exclude both weekends and public holidays. Since this calculator excludes weekends only, factor in public holidays and any company holidays separately when calculating leave entitlements.
How can I use it for payroll proration?
Depending on company policy, prorated pay is based on either calendar days (monthly salary divided by days in the month, times days employed) or working days. For the working-day method, count the working days in the period with this calculator and multiply by the daily rate. Check your employment rules for how holidays are handled.
Where working-day counts are used
Working-day calculations come up in many situations: prorating salary for mid-month hires and departures, planning project schedules and deadlines, checking actual workdays within a contract period, quoting delivery lead times in business days, and measuring leave periods.
Government offices, banks, and legal deadlines are often stated in business days as well. Because business days also exclude public holidays, subtract the holidays in your period from this calculator's result for those cases.
Public holidays in South Korea
South Korea's statutory public holidays include New Year's Day, the Seollal (Lunar New Year) holiday of three days, Independence Movement Day, Children's Day, Buddha's Birthday, Memorial Day, Liberation Day, the Chuseok holiday of three days, National Foundation Day, Hangeul Day, and Christmas Day — roughly 15 days per year. Substitute holidays and election days may add more in some years.
The actual number of days off varies from year to year depending on how many holidays fall on weekends. As a result, the real number of working days in a year is often around 245 to 250, after subtracting holidays from the roughly 261 weekdays.
